Rithet’s Bog Conservation Area is a 42-hectare wetland in central Broadmead under the stewardship of the Rithet’s Bog Conservation Society (RBCS), a registered non profit. It is the last remaining peat bog on the Saanich Peninsula and was donated to the municipality by the Guinness family of Britain in 1994 and subsequently zoned as a nature sanctuary.
The RBCS works closely with Saanich Parks, advising on the ecology and management of the park, particularly the bog ecosystem. The RBCS has extensive educational material including information on the post-settlement history of the area.
